The Ardent Birder
author
Todd Newberry
plot synopsis in
50 words or fewer
A collection of 50 short essays on birding. More on the birder, less on the bird.
yo!
You don't have to be a birder to get off on this book. I'm not a birder. At all. The closest I come is when the cat brings one home and I have to catch it and let it back out. This book's great anyways. Newberry's writing style is lively and engaging, and his essays are quirky and interesting. Just read the damn book, Ok?
other people who
liked this book (or at least say they
did)
Lawrence Weschler ("Ardor? Yes—but precision and modesty and grace as well, and altogether a majesty both profound and soaring. Through his wry and brimming prose, Newberry gives us something far more valuable than a new aspiration. He gives us back out eyes and ears: freshly minted!")
Paul Prior ("These wise words force the birder to slow down, take another look—at the bird, at birding, and at themselves and how they bird. I will be keeping Todd Newbery's suggestions in mind as I head into the field in seasons to come.")
